Restaurant Pagers Going Off Randomly? Change the System ID

If your pagers buzz when nobody at your stand pressed anything, either your own system sent an all-page, or a nearby system (often the shop next door with the same brand) is on the same ID. Two minutes of checks tell you which.

Find the cause in four checks

  1. 1

Is every pager going off, or just some?

All of them, playing a tune or vibrating non-stop, is usually an alert from your own system (out-of-range or locate), not interference.

  2. 2

Rule out your own all-page code

JTECH IQ systems page every pager off the charger with 1249 SEND, and Retekess T112 keypads silence all pagers with a long-press of 9. A staff member pressing the wrong code is the commonest "random" page.

  3. 3

    Note when it happens

Pages that line up with the neighbour's busy times point to a shared system ID on the same brand.

  4. 4

    Change your system ID

Give your transmitter and pagers an ID nobody nearby uses. Steps per brand are below. LRS says it sets non-zero system IDs specifically to stop conflicts with other LRS systems nearby.

After changing a system ID, your pagers must be set to the new ID too, or they will stop answering your own transmitter.

What is your pager fleet costing you each year?

The numbers below are rough estimates. Change them to what you actually pay.

With Bzz, guests scan a QR code and their own phone becomes the pager: a live place-in-line page in the browser that alerts them when it is their turn. There are no pagers to charge, pair or replace.

When the pagers stop their wake-up flash, press ENTER straight away (it is timed). They slowly brighten and dim while they take the new ID.

  4. 4.Plug the charger back in and test

Keep at least a foot between pagers and transmitter. Any that didn't respond: repeat. F4 three times to exit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Usually one of three things: someone used an all-page or locate code, the pagers are giving an out-of-range alert, or a nearby system of the same brand shares your system ID. Changing the system ID fixes the last one.
It can if both use the same brand and ID. LRS sets non-zero system IDs to stop its systems conflicting with others nearby. Give your system an ID nobody near you uses.
On a TX-7470 or TX-7471: SETUP, 31337, 1 (System), F2 seven times, open System ID, type the new number and press Enter. Then program all the pagers to the new ID with the Prg Vibe option.
No radio is involved. With Bzz, each guest's alert goes to their own phone's browser over mobile data or Wi-Fi, tied to their place in your line, so another venue's system can't reach it.
