LRS Butler XP: Pagers Not Responding and Programming

The Butler XP is LRS's push-button transmitter for staff and service paging. When pagers stop answering, it is nearly always a battery or a number/system-ID mismatch.

Pagers not responding to the Butler XP

  1. 1

    Check the pager is on

A powered pager flashes an icon at the top of its screen every few seconds. No icon: replace the battery.

  2. 2

    Check the Butler XP batteries

If the beep is enabled, it beeps and lights up when a button is pressed.

  3. 3

Find the pager's number and system ID

Take the pager battery out and put it back. On boot the C1 field shows the system ID in brackets, then the pager number. "C1: [1] 101" is pager 101 on system ID 1.

  4. 4

Make sure the Butler XP is programmed to match

Same pager number and same system ID, set in the configuration utility (below).

Programming the Butler XP

You need LRS's Butler XP Programming Kit: the Butler Configuration Utility software and a mini-USB cable. Ask your LRS representative if you don't have it.

  1. 1.Remove the battery door and batteries

Then connect the mini-USB cable between the Butler XP and your computer.

  2. 2.Open the Butler XP Configuration Utility

Set the programming features and messages you need.

  3. 3.Click "Update Butler"

A message confirms when programming is complete. Repeat for each Butler XP.

Renumbering pagers or putting them in groups

Pagers ship programmed. To change them, connect the Butler XP to the computer as above.

  1. 1.In the utility, open Tools > Program Pagers

Choose the pager's main number and any groups.

  2. 2.Take the battery out of the pager and put it back

Then click Program. The pager answers with a series of beeps.

  3. 3.For group paging, tick the group paging box

Select the group number as the pager number, then Update Butler.

Repage and the magnet

Repage resends a page until someone answers. Turn it on in the utility and set a repage time of 10 seconds or more.

  1. 1.Cancel a repage

Hold the round magnet at the button end of the pager over the "Press for service" area for about a second. The Butler XP beeps to confirm.
